ABOUT US

Greetings!

The Laboratory for Wind Engineering Research, formally The Laboratory for Structural Mitigation, is one of four research units within the International Hurricane Research Center (IHRC) based at Florida International University (FIU), the State's Type 1 Center, dedicated to hurricane research, education and outreach.

The LWE is the first facility of its kind within the university system in Florida. The Lab includes the first non-commercial testing facility in the state dedicated to building materials, components and assemblies under the high velocity hurricane protocols of the Florida Building Code.

The Lab will complement the interdisciplinary research agenda of the IHRC for the benefit of millions of residents in hurricane vulnerable communities everywhere.
