John R. Kukeakalani Clark

Born and raised in Hawaii, John R. Kukeakalani Clark is a former lifeguard who is the Deputy Fire Chief of the Honolulu Fire Department. He is also the author of the popular beaches of Hawaii book series, which identifies every beach on the eight major Hawaiian Islands. Published by the University of Hawaii Press, the series includes six books: Beaches of Oahu (1977), Beaches of Maui County (1980), Beaches of the Big Island (1985), Beaches of Kauai and Niihau (1990), Hawaii's Best Beaches (1998), and Hawaii Place Names: Shores, Beaches, and Surf Sites (2002).
