2019 FIU Weather Day, February 7th

The FIU Extreme Events Institute partnered with the FIU Athletics Department to plan and facilitate FIU Weather Day on Thursday, February 7th, outside on the front plaza area alongside the FIU Ocean Bank Arena, from 8:30am to 10:30am. The audience was approximately 1,000 elementary and middle school students from Miami-Dade County. After the event, the students watched the FIU women’s basketball game which began at 11am. The event was a success with the the participation of many partners, including NOAA National Hurricane Center (NHC), NOAA National Weather Service (NWS), Miami-Dade Emergency Management (M-D EM), Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Airborne International Response Team (AIRT), FIU Athletics & Roary, FIU Engineering on Wheels, FIU Meteorology Students, FIU Sea Level Solutions Center and the FIU FAST (Florida Advanced Surgical Transport) Team. Students and teachers were educated and entertained by special hands-on, interactive activities, demonstrations and hurricane experts. (Watch the video here)
